A project titled “Kazuma Miura Electronic Sextet,” launched in 2024 by the world-renowned bandoneonist Kazuma Miura, has been announced with a three-venue Billboard Live tour. Paying tribute to Piazzolla’s “music” and “life,” this work brings together musicians famed for their astonishing technique in pursuit of an ideal ensemble. Centered on Miura, who studied under the Piazzolla-direct lineage’s top master, Néstor Marconi, and who became Japan’s first and youngest runner-up at the 2008 Piazzolla Competition, the lineup also includes Yasuhisa Ishida, the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal solo concertmaster, and Mao Sone, a trumpeter and pianist gaining attention in the jazz world for his “dual-wield” versatility. From the recordings of Piazzolla’s Libertango — the album Piazzolla himself once called a failure — the works from the Conjunto Electronico era are reconstructed with contemporary technology and music theory.
